In the blue corner, we have Lumin Sign. And in the red corner, we have PandaDoc.

Both these platforms pack a powerful punch when it comes to automating eSignatures. But you only need one. Which one is best for your needs?

What is Lumin Sign?

Lumin Sign is a signature workflow automation platform. That means it takes care of the entire electronic signature process from start to finish – which, let's face it, can be a nightmare sometimes.

Instead of just collecting signatures, like you would with a bog-standard eSignature tool, you can:

  • request signatures from multiple people at the same time
  • send out automated reminders to signers
  • track contracts on their journey from sent to signed

Your life just got easier, right?

What is PandaDoc?

PandaDoc describes itself as an agreement management solution that helps teams get more done, faster.

Like Lumin Sign, it offers plenty of eSignature automation capabilities. However, it has a wider scope, with extra document management and automation features.

Case in point: PandaDoc lets you collect payments via documents such as digital invoices, while Lumin Sign doesn't have this functionality.

Let's compare Lumin Sign and PandaDoc in a little more detail.

Tools

Lumin Sign lets you:

  • capture signatures in mere seconds
  • send a contract to up to 20 people for signing
  • automate reminder for people to sign your documents
  • know the status of contracts via push notifications

If that isn't enough, you can use Lumin Sign's API for more advanced, custom features.

PandaDoc lets you:

  • design documents from scratch in-house before sending them for signing (though Lumin Sign integrates with Lumin’s PDF editor and its template library, which let you do something similar)
  • collect payments via documents using a payment gateway
  • integrate its platform with accounting software, document storage platforms and more via native connections

In summary

While Lumin Sign is focused on a comprehensive signature workflow, PandaDoc looks at all the features around that workflow. If you’re a large enterprise, these external features might be what you’re looking for.

However, these fancy – and, perhaps in your use case, unnecessary – features come at a hefty price, which you'll find out about a little later.

UX

Almost anyone can use Lumin Sign. The platform has a streamlined user interface with super simple navigational features that work perfectly on both a computer and a mobile device.

PandaDoc is aimed at users who are more digitally savvy, so its user experience might feel perfectly intuitive to you or – if you’re more new to signature automation tools, it might feel a little complicated at time.

Security

We get it. Using a third-party tool to send sensitive documents might seem risky. However, both Lumin and PandaDoc boast some seriously impressive security features.

Both platforms have GDPR, PCI-DSS and other security compliances. They also store data with Amazon Web Services, which offers world-class security at scale.

If you work in the healthcare sector, PandaDoc fully complies with HIPAA.

Pricing

Lumin Sign and PandaDoc both have free versions. However, if you're serious about eSignature automation, you'll want to treat yourself to a paid plan with additional features.

Here's where things really diverge between our two contenders. Lumin Sign's Pro plan - its most popular - costs just $18 per user per month. For that price, each user can request and sign signatures, view contract statuses, send email reminders and do lots of other stuff.

PandaDoc's most popular plan, Business, costs $65 per user per month (when paying monthly) – that's over 3.5 times the price. Sure, each user gets unlimited document uploads and eSignatures. However, that might not justify the cost, especially if you only need a handful of docs signed every month.

Lumin Sign and PandaDoc are ultimately two different beasts, with the latter offering more features than the former at a higher price point.

If you're getting started on your digital transformation journey and want to automate eSignature workflows, Lumin Sign might be an easier tool to learn.

The choice is all yours!
