Somewhere on someone’s laptop right now, there’s a file called Agreement_v3_FINAL_v2.docx.
It's been marked up in Word a few times, emailed around to whoever needed to sign off, then converted to PDF and uploaded to a separate tool for signing.
That gap, between drafting an agreement and actually getting it signed, is where most of the friction lives. Not because any one tool is bad, but because none of them were built to talk to each other.
We sat down with Lumin’s Founder and CEO, Max, to talk about why we built AgreementGen to close that gap, what a year in beta taught us, and why now’s the moment it’s ready for everyone.
"We saw people stuck in this incredibly clumsy flow,” Max says. “That handoff between tools is where everything goes wrong: version confusion, formatting breaking, people signing the wrong draft. We wanted to build something that owns the entire flow, from the first draft to the completed, signed document, so that handoff just disappears.”
There was a second, quieter problem Max kept coming back to. “Most Lumin documents get signed on a phone, not a laptop. People are standing in a hallway, in a car, wherever they happen to be. AgreementGen was built mobile-first from day one, because if that’s where people are actually signing, that’s where the product needs to work best.”
That’s the thinking AgreementGen has been tested against for the past year – and today, it’s coming out of beta.
Thousands of contracts, one year in
AgreementGen has been shaped by the people drafting the contracts their businesses depend on. What they needed set the roadmap, with new features and functionality shipping every month. The tool coming out of beta today is a lot more capable than the product we first launched.
"AgreementGen has been in beta for over a year, and in that time it’s drafted thousands of contracts for businesses. It’s become the fastest-growing product in our line-up, and it’s ready for production use, whether you’re a two-person business or a much bigger one,” says Max.
So what does coming out of beta actually mean?
“It means you can rely on AgreementGen to get the job done quickly and properly, every single time. It’s SOC 2 compliant and built on the same security foundation as the rest of Lumin, so it meets the same standards our biggest customers already trust us on.”
The front door, not the side door
Since launch, AgreementGen sat next to Lumin Sign, a companion feature. Max thinks that’s changing.
“AgreementGen is becoming the product for modern businesses who want their agreements signed quickly and securely,” he says. "It’s built on the same Lumin Sign technology our customers already trust, so that security and compliance comes standard, without any extra steps to get there. You shouldn’t have to work for reliability; it should just be built in.”
Max was asked whether this makes AgreementGen the front door to Lumin for a new kind of customer: “Yes, it’s a shift from being a feature Lumin has, to being the reason someone finds Lumin in the first place. That matters most for the non-technical, non-CRM, small-and-growing businesses out there. They just want an agreement drafted and signed without any fuss, and now they’ve got a product built for exactly that.”
Not a Word plugin, not a lawyer
There’s no shortage of tools that will draft you a contract, and no shortage of AI agents claiming to do the same. Max is quick to draw the line around what AgreementGen actually is.
“It’s not a Word plugin, and it’s not trying to replace a lawyer,” he says. “It manages the whole lifecycle of a template and an agreement, from creation through to completion. If you’ve already got something lawyer-drafted, that’s completely fine too; just upload the docx or the PDF and AgreementGen will prep it for signing. We’re not necessarily asking people to start from scratch inside our tool. We meet them wherever their agreement already lives.”
What’s next
Beta is behind AgreementGen now, but Max is clear this is closer to a starting point than a finish line.
“Over the next six to twelve months, we’re deepening our integrations with the AI tools people are already working in, Gemini Enterprise, Claude, and ChatGPT among them,” he says. “We’re also adding a lot more legally reviewed templates, so more businesses can start from something solid instead of a blank page.”
Zooming out, Max sees this graduation from beta as a part of something bigger. “This is a real step towards something we care about deeply: owning the whole agreement lifecycle at Lumin, not just the signature at the end of it. AgreementGen coming out of beta is a huge part of what that future looks like.”
