Form 5695

IRS Form 5695 (2025), Residential Energy Credits, is used to compute two federal tax credits: the Residential Clean Energy Credit (solar, geothermal, wind, battery storage, and fuel cell property) and the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (qualified insulation, doors, windows, certain HVAC/water heaters, electrical enabling property, home energy audits, heat pumps, and biomass equipment). The form collects the taxpayer’s name and Social Security number, the address of the home(s) where property was installed, Qualified Manufacturer Identification Numbers for certain items, and detailed cost amounts to calculate credit limits and any carryforward. The completed form is attached to Form 1040 series returns and amounts are reported on Schedule 3.

U.S. taxpayers filing Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR who are claiming residential clean energy credits or energy-efficient home improvement credits for qualifying property installed in 2025 (or claiming a carryforward).
