IRS Form 8822 (Rev. Feb 2021) lets a taxpayer notify the Internal Revenue Service of a change in home mailing address for individual income tax returns and/or gift, estate, or generation-skipping transfer tax returns. The filer provides names, Social Security numbers (and spouse/decedent details when applicable), prior names, old address, and new address, including foreign address fields if needed. An optional daytime phone number can be included. The form must be signed and dated by the taxpayer (and spouse for joint returns unless separated) or by an executor/authorized representative; representatives must attach proof such as a power of attorney. The completed form is mailed to the correct IRS processing center listed in the instructions.
Individuals (and spouses on joint returns), executors/donors, or authorized representatives who need to update a home mailing address with the IRS for applicable tax returns.
Mail to the IRS address listed in the form’s “Where To File” section (Kansas City, MO; Austin, TX; or Ogden, UT depending on prior address and whether line 2 is checked). Guam and U.S. Virgin Islands bona fide residents may submit to the local tax agencies listed.
